Coopers Edge Trust Opening First Community Facility

Written by on June 11, 2011

[Monday 13th of June] Today, the first community facility at Coopers Edge will open. The new
temporary community centre will provide a place for residents to come together as well as a space
to run activities for the local community.
‘The Coopers Edge Trust in partnership with Gloucestershire University has been selected to be part
of the ‘Neighbourhood Challenge’ which is being run by the National Endowment for Science,
Technology and the Arts (NESTA) with support from the Big Lottery Fund (BIG).
The Coopers Edge Trust has renovated the rundown temporary classroom into a community room
suitable for activities such stay and play, communities meetings, youth clubs and Pilates or yoga.
Residents are being invited to submit their ideas for future activities for the development via the
new suggestions box in the community room.
The Trust are also working with other organisations in the surrounding area to try and ensure that
benefit from involvement in the Neighbourhood Challenge programme reaches out beyond Coopers
Edge. The plan is that activities that are setup in the new temporary community centre can move to
the permanent community centre that will be built by the developers in the future.
Joanne Vickers from the Coopers Edge Trust says ‘We hope this will be a significant milestone for
Coopers Edge – somewhere where residents can meet each other, have fun and build relationships.
We will have a timetable of events in the first couple of weeks, but we very much hope that after
that, what is on offer is shaped by what residents of Coopers Edge and the surrounding communities
want to see. It’s also a double celebration for us as we welcome Bill Booth to the team, who is
starting as Community Organiser for Coopers Edge’’
