First spade in the ground

Building work has begun at five nurseries which were awarded money by Gloucestershire Council to provide permanent facilities for pre-school children.
Little Meadows Nursery in Quedgeley, Piccolo Bears Nursery in Cheltenham, Hartpury Nursery, Phoenix Nursery in Nailsworth and Mitton Manor Nursery are first of 14 community providers of pre-school providers to have work starting to replace their buildings and improve the learning environment of the children.
Cllr Stephen McMillan, Cabinet Member for Young People, said: “It is really good to see that real improvement in facilities is being delivered for these nurseries by the county council. I hope that the children are able to enjoy their start in the school system so much more through improved surroundings.”
The county council is spending £7.3million and the works are being funded by the Sure Start and Early Years Childcare Grant.
All of the projects will be completed by the Autumn term.
