Youngsters asked to ‘coin’ a design

Written by on May 20, 2010

As part of Gloucestershire County Council’s commitment to educating schoolchildren about money matters, primary pupils have been invited to design a £100 coin which represents their community.

The £100 coin challenge has been organised as part of My Money Week (28th June to 4th July). Pupils are being asked to design a coin for Gloucestershire showing both the back and front, explaining how it represents their community and how they would spend the £100 prize money if they won.

There are five £100 prizes to be won for participating classes, groups or individual pupils. Entries will be judged on the originality and creativity of design, a clear explanation of the benefits the prize money could bring to their class or school, and how they think their design represents their community.

Cllr Jackie Hall, Cabinet Member for Education, said: It is never too early to teach children about handling money responsibly and to avoid debt. This competition is a fun way for our younger pupils to explore this topic whilst also thinking about their community and how they would use the £100 if they won”.

Entries must be received no later than Friday 9th July and results will be made known on 16th July. The prizes will be presented during school assemblies and all entrants will receive a certificate.
