Rhythm & Blues Show: A Quick look At The Beginnings Of STAX Records

Written by on November 14, 2011

During the first hour of The Rhythm & Blues Show on Tuesday 15 November we will be taking a look at the beginnings of Stax Records and (of course) playing a few tunes from the era. Starting off by recording Country + Western & rockabilly, the company, originally calling itself ‘Satellite Records’ underwent a complete transformation to a Black R ‘n’ B lable!

"At a time when black and white couldn’t have been more polarized, Stax Records was able to bridge a cavernous gap, bringing together musicians and music-lovers who pushed a movement bigger than the sum of its parts into the living rooms and malt shops of a colorless America." —  http://samanthaharlow.wordpress.com/2010/05/03/stax-o-wax-and-americas-pure-soul/
