The Rhythm & Blues Show: ‘Going Back To The Roots’……
Written by adminChris on February 13, 2012
This show is often described as "going back to the roots of the music" SO:-
while the world takes in the death of Whitney Houston and the news reporters look for the juicy stories and pictures, we will take a brief look at some of the ‘roots’ that Whitney grew from. We only play music from about 50 years ago, sometimes many years before and a few years after, but never from the years when this talented singer started hitting the charts so we will not hear Whitney herself. What we will hear is some of the music & family that was around before & just after her birth, the great musical heritage & roots from which she grew!
Anyone remember the Drinkard Singers who eventually became the ‘ much wanted’ group which backed so many records in the 60’s: Soul; R & B; Pop, whatever?
And then there was Dee Dee Warwick; Dion Warwick and Mother Cissy in years gone by, all get a quick look-in together with a couple of other familiar names to generations gone by………..
