Gloucestershire Drug Dealer And Three Others To Be Sentenced For £200,000 Heroin Conspiracy

Written by on April 29, 2010

Four people will be sentenced for their part in a £200,000 heroin conspiracy after a trial at Bristol Crown Court ended today.

Iqbal Moolla (50), of Robertson Road, Shurdington, had already pleaded guilty to conspiracy to supply class A drugs and had been remanded in custody.

He will now be sentenced alongside Mark Woodward (40) of Ansty Road, Swindon, Anthony Belcher (43), of Pennyvoss Road, Swindon and Sharon Lyons (41), of Shenton Close, Swindon, who were found guilty of the same charge after a trial at Bristol Crown Court.

The trial related to a Gloucestershire Police investigation that began in October 2008.

During a proactive, intelligence-led operation, officers intercepted heroin with a street value of £200,000 in Manchester as it was transported from Gloucester to Bradford.

All four offenders were subsequently arrested in June 2009 in a series of coordinated raids and charged with conspiracy to supply class A drugs.

Detective Inspector Neil Carpenter, who led the investigation, said: “This was a proactive, surveillance-led operation that used a number of the force’s operational assets and highlights our ability to successfully deal with serious criminality.

“Drugs can blight our communities and thorough and dedicated investigations like this should give people confidence that we will take action wherever possible to bring dealers to justice and take drugs off our streets.

“If anyone has information on drug-related crime, we would urge them to call us on 0845 090 1234, or Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.”

Sentencing for the four offenders will now take place on Wednesday, May 5.
