County Council Flying Flag For Armed Forces Day

People in Gloucestershire will be able to show their support for local troops on Armed Forces Day next week (Saturday 25th June).
As part of the national celebrations, flag-raising ceremonies are being staged across the country. In Gloucester, a unique armed services flag will fly above the front of Shire Hall from 8am on Monday 20th June.
An armed forces banner will also be hung between pillars at Shire Hall from Monday 20th June until Armed Forces Day on Saturday 25th June.
Cllr Mark Hawthorne, Leader of Gloucestershire County Council said: “Armed Forces Day is an opportunity not just for residents of Gloucestershire, but the whole nation to show their support to the men and women who work around the world to keep us safe.
“But for us, this could not be more poignant with the tragic losses for Gloucestershire families in the last month.”
Pete Bungard, Chief Executive of Gloucestershire County Council, said: “It is important to recognise and celebrate the outstanding work that the Armed Forces community does, not only those serving now but their families and veterans.”
“I am proud that we are flying the flag from Shire Hall and showing our support for the tremendous work that they do. These people risk their lives for us and I am delighted to be showing our support in this way.”
