Paul Oliver Talk on the ‘Story of the Blues Exhibition’ 30th July 1pm – First Floor, Gloucester Library, Brunswick Road.

Foremost blues researcher, writer and archivist Paul Oliver presents a talk about his fabulous exhibition, ‘Story of the Blues’. Originally commissioned in 1964 by the American Embassy in London and covering the building’s entire ground floor, the exhibition was displayed for two months and was then put into storage – it finally sees the light of day again in Gloucester some 47 years later!

The original exhibition is now on display at the European Blues Association’s base, on the first floor in Gloucester Library. The exhibition has 18 sections; From Africa to America; From Work Songs to Blues; The Negro Migration; The Country Blues; Blues Guitarists; Piano Blues; Jug and Washboard Bands; The Blues They Played; They Sand the Blues; The Blues They Sang; The Classic Blues; Blues and Entertainment; Jump Jackson and His Band; South Side Blues; Blues on Record; Post War Blues; The Folk Blues Today and “R ‘n B”.
