PLEASE: ‘Look And Look Again’ For Motorcycles

Written by on August 31, 2011

Half of all motorcycling collisions happen because of failure to look properly – by rider or driver. One of Gloucestershire Road Safety Partnership’s priorities is to reduce this figure.

Gloucestershire Road Safety Partnership’s (GRSP) successful four year rural route campaign has proven to help reduce motorcycling collisions on signposted routes in Gloucestershire. Starting this week (Monday 29th August), the GRSP will be putting up eye catching black and yellow road signs on key motorcycle casualty routes in urban areas.

The signs will warn all road users to ‘Look, Look Again’ for motorcycles – especially in heavy traffic and before turning or manoeuvring. Over the last couple of years, the GRSP has noticed an increase in the number of collisions involving motorcycles and mopeds, especially on urban routes. In Gloucestershire approximately two thirds of all motorcycling collisions occur in urban areas.

Chris Harrison, motorcycling co-ordinator for Gloucestershire Road Safety Partnership, said: “There are various ways we as riders can reduce the risk of being involved in a collision, developing our own skills is essential. There is training available locally to riders through Bikesafe, IAM or RoSPA.”
