Road closure notice: City road shut for linkages scheme
Written by Shaun Moore on April 23, 2010
Kimbrose Way, Gloucester, will close to traffic from Monday as work continues on the city linkages scheme.
Work started on the £7million Gloucester Linkages project last month and already significant progress has been made.
From Monday, 26th April, Kimbrose Way will close until 28th June when it will re-open as a two-way street.
Until then all northbound traffic approaching Kimbrose Triangle will be diverted at St Anne’s Way to the South West bypass and to Westgate Island. Southbound traffic will not be affected.
The Waterwells/St Oswalds park and ride bus service will also follow this route.
Buses will turn left as they approach from the Quay and the bus stop will be at the Longsmith Street end of Ladybellegate Street.
There will still be access to the Docks car park and Stagecoach bus services will turn right into Parliament Street to a new bus stop in front of the Climbing Warehouse.
Work will also start next week on the new art wall outside the County Court building in Kimbrose Square.
Contractors Balfour Beatty Regional Civil Engineering are carrying out the work, which will connect Gloucester city centre with the historic docks and the Gloucester Quays development.
It will improve walking and cycling routes between the two areas and will better direct traffic around the city.
Gloucestershire County Council is responsible for £2.1 million worth of improvements along the Kimbrose Triangle and Southgate Street section.
The council’s project will involve laying high quality paving between the County Court at Kimbrose Triangle and the existing pedestrianised section of Southgate Street at its junction with Longsmith Street.
At Kimbrose Way a public square is to be introduced which vehicles will be permitted to pass through under a shared space concept where drivers will be expected to give way to pedestrians.
Southgate Street from Kimbrose Triangle up to Longsmith Street will become a pedestrianised area, but park and ride buses will continue to operate here.
Work is expected to finish in November 2010.
