Police are investigating a serious sexual assault on a 20-year-old woman that happened in the King’s Barton Street area of Gloucester between 5.00am and 5.30am on Sunday, June 20.
Police are interested in tracing and speaking to a white man of medium build aged in his late teens to mid twenties with short dark hair. He was wearing a short-sleeved dark top with hood and a light-coloured sleeveless tank top with motif on the front, jeans and white trainers.
This man was seen in the area of Eastgate Street and King’s Barton Street during that time and Police wish to eliminate him from their investigation.
Detective Chief Inspector Simon Atkinson said: “Firstly I would like to reassure people that these sort of incidents are extremely rare in Gloucester. Officers are dedicated to locating the offender – we are examining CCTV footage and looking at all forensic evidence, but we do need your help.
“If you were in the location mentioned around the time of the incident then please contact police. You may have vital information. You can always remain anonymous and call Crimestoppers.”
DCI Atkinson had this advice for people in the area: “We do not want to cause any unnecessary alarm or distress but we are urging people to be aware of their personal safety. Never walk home alone at night, try to get a taxi or stay with friends.
“If you are walking home then always choose well-lit routes and avoid alleyways or shortcuts. Be aware of your surroundings and of anyone who may be acting suspiciously. Do not engage in conversations with strangers and if you are concerned for your safety then contact the police.”
