The Key to summer fun

Written by on July 21, 2010

An information service for families with a disabled child has lots of great ideas for things to do over the summer holidays.

The Key, an information service provided by GUiDE and PALS and funded by Gloucestershire County Council, is offering families who have a disabled child, leisure passes for free and discounted activities.

The leisure passes can be used throughout the summer holidays at a variety of designated sites across the county and are only available to Key members. A number of leisure passes are available for swimming, creative arts and crafts, multi-sports and lots of other activities depending on which district they live in.

Cllr Paul McLain, Cabinet member for Children’s Services, said: “There are weeks of holidays stretching ahead of us as schools shut for the summer break. Children need to keep occupied and active and the activities available through The Key is a great alternative to days of Xbox, Wii and wall to wall television. I’m delighted we’re able to offer families with disabled children the opportunity to have access to fun activities.”

Sarah Hopkins, Key Co-ordinator, said: There are some fabulous activity schemes available to children in Gloucestershire this summer and these vouchers really help to reduce the cost and give disabled children a choice of fun activities and the opportunity to try something new.”
