Background information
As everyone know, (& our politicians / leaders constantly keep reminding us!) we are currently living in difficult financial times. As most people & families have found, money is harder to come by AND that which we have buys less & less as costs, e.g. rent & utility bills, continue to rise. This is also true for many businesses and Gloucester FM: GFM 96.6, is not immune to or exempt from any of this.
Although run entirely by volunteers, contrary to what many people believe, GFM is not a charity – its a "Company Limited by Guarantee" an alternative type of corporation used primarily for non-profit organisations (e.g voluntary, charitable, social enterprise or community organisation) & is thus registered at Companies House as Gloucester FM: it is a Business! Unless we can continue to maintain a cash-flow sufficient to pay our regular monthly or annual bills the business closes down & transmissions will cease on 96.6 FM and on the internet.
Some examples of outgoing costs:-
As a broadcaster, on top of the usual regular outgoings, e.g. rent, utility & mandatory business insurance etc. we have to pay for licenses to broadcast (on FM Radio and the internet), together with a license to broadcast music & then there’s payments for service contracts to keep studio equipment & transmitters up & working ’24/7 — 365′, without which you could not hear us! These are only some examples but sufficient to see that broadcasting does not come cheap even when run by volunteers.
The Show: ‘Support Our Station’
Grants, sponsorship & other funding from many of our traditional sources is drying up & advertising is getting harder to acquire from other cash-strapped local businesses — so on Saturday June 08 at 2-00 pm Saturday Soup Crew are presenting a special 2-hour show "Support Our Station": Brother (Evangelist) Harvey who will be launching a major fundraising project for GFM 96.6 & seeking your involvement, will also come to the studio during the show. This is to let the community know how they can help increase our cash-flow: (for example: by helping to secure advertising from local businesses, organising fundraising events, setting up small personal monthly donations) AND any other ideas from the community will be considered. Please tune-in at 2-00 pm on Saturday* & interact with the show. If GFM 96.6 "Live & Local" is to continue blessing the community for many more years 24/7 — 365, with Music, News, Information & Advice: then we need to be blessed by committed & constant support from the community we serve. We are a Community Radio Station – we need community interaction to thrive & exist; as do all community radio stations.
