Gloucester’s on the map!

It’s been a record busting year for staff in the city council’s Tourist Information Centre.

Since the beginning of April they have had  more than 70,000 people through the door of their offices in Southgate Street – 17,000 more than the same period last year.

And several times this year the staff have coped with more than 1000 visitors in a day – beating their previous highest figure of 750 people.

Council Leader, Paul James, commented: ” This is one of the factors that demonstrates that Gloucester is well and truly on the map. We have had a great year in the city with a whole string of events taking place.

” These include the Three Choirs Festival, the city-wide Summer festival, the BBC History Festival, the Gloucester day celebrations, Heritage Open Days  and the new Crucible Exhibition at the Cathedral.

” Doesn’t this just go to show the diverse range of events that we stage in the city and explains who so many people have come to visit us.”

And he went on: ” Visitors who go to the Tourist Information Centre get a fantastic service. Our award winning TIC is one of the best in the country and they will get a fabulous service.”

In addition to visitors to the city the TIC has a strong base of local residents who use them for booking coach trips, bus passes and information about local events.
